Wedding Fireworks
As we enter the ‘Wedding Season’ here at Epic and using fireworks at the end of any couple’s special day is becoming more the ‘in thing’ than ever.
Although may people go for the ‘professional display’, nowadays there are more and more people choosing to fire their own DIY pack instead.
The length of the display itself is usually the starting point but the problem is that our perception of time is really warped. I recently tasked my colleagues in the office to indicate when they believed 5 minutes had expired without the aid of a clock or watch. No-one, without exception, got to within 30 seconds (nearest being the lovely Kash at 45 seconds over) of the timing which is a staggering indication that when it comes to fireworks, quality counts above quantity.
Realistically, we would recommend a show of between 3 and 10 minutes of full on sky illuminating magic.
So, what should the prospective couple consider? We have a list of 5 common queries to think about before ordering your display.
1. Noise – many fireworks include various levels of noise ranging from the gentle pop or crackle to the full on screeching whistle or report (a bit like gunfire) so you really should look to your guest list. Any very small children or the elderly may become quite upset at the noisier versions. However, if you are about to marry a huge prop forward from your local rugby club and 50 of his ‘mates’ are expected, worry not – the noisier the better.
2. Faulty fireworks – successful displays rely on the synchronicity of pyro and music and therefore any misfires will naturally have a high impact. Quality control here at Epic is paramount as we are very aware of how devastating this can be. Choosing a reliable stockist is usually the best action. We pride ourselves that not more than 20 fireworks per annum are known to fail and some of the ones reported were down to user error (upside down or not secured down). We visit China regularly to check on quality at random to ensure that we have done everything in our power to guard against such an occasion.
3. DIY – Don’t know how? — Doing it yourself can potentially save you a good few pounds. For example, most professional firework display companies will fire a 10 minute display for £795.00, whereas you can have someone fire for you a 15 minute all out display of colour for £395.00 with our Bouquets of Colour DIY wedding pack. This comes with a firing order, full safety instructions and the layout plan and safety lighters goggles etc. If your ‘firer’ has any questions at all, we are open 7-days a week and the call will be answered by a pyro expert. With 20-years experience we have assisted many thousands of prospective customers in achieving some marvellous results.
4. More is not better – (well in this case anyway) Those amongst you who think that quantity over quality is the way to go are on their way to a world of trouble. The reason being that most of the smaller items are less dramatic and do not last as long therefore your designated firer will be running like an Olympic athlete in their attempt to light them all.
Of course this doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to opt for the most expensive choice but in fireworks, you truly do get what you pay for. If you give your supplier all the right information, they are the experts and where appropriate a bespoke display can be created, timed and laid out to your own requirements. We even have video’s of all our current stock (and some of those on their way to us from China at the moment) to enable you to make an informed decision. I would like to add that despite the images on your PC being really good, nothing compares to the sight of live fireworks.
5.What to have? – a good display should primarily be made up of cakes which take a single ignition and some of them are like ‘a display in a box’. The effects will keep your guests entertained with the surprise and delight of a sky bursting with light in a short but high impact display which will be remembered forever.
All told, we would recommend that you arm yourself with:
• A reasonable budget
• Colour scheme – we have a number of colour combinations like silver and blue and red and gold etc
• The age of the guests (for the noise levels you may be able to tolerate)
• Who will fire? Let us take them through the process and answer any questions
• Safety – where, when, what time, number of attendees, photo’s of the firing area where possible.
Once you have all this, call us, email or call over to see us. There is no obligation and we all love to talk fireworks. See you soon
Honda Celebration of Light Fireworks Festival 2012
Fireworks: Brazil, Italy and Vietnam to battle in Honda Celebration of Light festival
From 28 July 2012 until 4 August 2012, the skies over English Bay, Vancouver will be lit up with fireworks.
Vancouver has held this event for a number of years and this was previously sponsored by HSBC. However, when Honda took over the sponsorship, the name changed to Honda Celebration of Light Festival.
This festival, now enjoying its twenty second year as an event will feature entries from Brazil, Italy and Vietnam who will battle it out over the 8 day period to be crowned winner.
The event has grown to such a degree that the area surrounding the firing site is completely shut down to traffic to enable sightseers to take in the staggering beauty of the displays on offer.
The competing teams and their display dates are as follows:
Vietnam — Team Da Nang — July 28th
Brazil — Group Vision — August 1 st
Italy — Pirotecnica Soldi — August 4th
The 2012 Celebration of Light competition will begin promptly each night at 10:00pm over English Bay, rain or shine.
Sadly, this will mark the first time in six years that Canada is not represented at the event which is particularly sad when the 2011 spectacle saw China beat Spain and Canada for the title.
This event is the largest annual offshore fireworks competition in the world and will attract up to 300,000 spectators along English Bay each evening adding to the much needed economy at the moment.

Rule Britannia
Looking around the internet at the latest holiday offers, of all the locations in the world to visit, the place to be this summer is believe it or not the UK.
Government officials have allocated £3 million towards a TV advertising campaign, the first of its kind on this scale, to encourage us not to take our hard earned cash abroad but to spend it here in Blighty.
The year of the “staycation” seems to be getting off to a good start with thousands of offers to tempt us, thereby boosting our economy. There are so many offers it’s hard to know where to begin. From three day London Passes, which offer free admission to 55 of our capitals top tourist attractions for just £32.30 (while stocks last), to Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt’s 20.12 discount scheme which offers 20.12% off visits to our favourite places, such as the sixteen breath-taking lakes we have, Alton Towers, Warner Bros studios in London where you can experience the new Harry Potter attraction, this list is possibly endless. For more information visit http://www.visitbritainshop.com/world/special-offers.html
On the economic front, an estimated 12,000 jobs are being created to cope with the expected £5.3 million worth of short/overnight breaks, generating a hopeful £480 million in tourist revenue over the next two to three years toward our economy.
We have so many unique attractions, to show to the world, our American cousins are sure to be flocking over here to experience our long and varied cultural heritage. (And possible to check our top quality pyro (a friend of mine from McKinley, Texas, still can’t believe the power and quality of fireworks we can set off any day of the year here in the UK. Being limited to just 500 grams of powder in their cakes (if they can have them at all) as they are banned in a lot of states in the US their choices are somewhat limited.
We will of course be open to supply FIREWORKS to all the patriotic, looking for the best quality, best priced, red white and blue (as well as all the other colours of the spectrum) consumer 1.3 & 1.4g fireworks, So far with still two months to go, Councils up and down the UK have already received over 6,500 applications for street closures to celebrate our Queens Diamond Jubilee (that’s already 1000 more than last year’s Royal wedding) with more applications being received daily. The phones here at Epic HQ being busier than expected, our new “Diamond Jubilee” Pack proving very popular.
The forthcoming Olympics and Diamond Jubilee celebrations have seen over 100,000 rooms being reserved in and around London for visitors to the capital so it may be time to plan ahead to avoid disappointment as hotel rooms around London will be expected to be as rare as rocking horse poop.
Local Councils around the country have been planning ahead for some time now; there are lots of incentives for all of us to get involved in a big way.
Basildon Council this year is offering 100 ‘double party in a box’ packs free of charge, for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Each box includes 25 bowler hats, 25 hand held flags, 25 balloons, a pack of bunting and one large flag– one St George’s themed and one Union Jack themed — along with a template poster for each event for residents to use for promotion. Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council have taken the initiative and taken out one blanket insurance policy to cover all the events in their catchment area, so good news there.
So all in all, it seems that us British are destined to have a bumper year with all the things planned and hopefully (fingers crossed) the weather won’t let us down.
If like thousands of others, you are planning a party, check out your local councils web site, as a quick look shows just about all the councils in the UK are offering information, hints and tips, celebration packs, insurance, and in general its mostly free. Its not very often you get something for free these days, unless of course you chose to collect our ”Diamond Jubilee” Fireworks Pack which offers £149.95 of free Sky Thriller Rockets, enough to cover the fuel of just about anybody in the UK to visit the UK’s BIGGEST Fireworks shop.
