New Fireworks Products For 2009 Season
Our trip to China in July was a big success. We were able to get in and out of China before the Olympics. This allowed us to place our orders earlier which means earlier production and shipment.
We are excited about our new product line up. We will add over 300 private label items to the Bigfireworks line. We are very excited about the new items which are truly new and unique. Also we added many value items. Not cheap – inexpensive with high quality effects at a great price.
Currently we have finished over 100 new label designs with new products already starting to ship. I will be posting the new labels and descriptions as the products ship.
Large Rockets will be more difficult to obtain in future.
In the U.K. the general public has always had access to large fireworks but the influence of certain countries in the EU is beginning to reduce the U.K. to their level. Schools, Scout groups,Tablers etc have traditionally organised fireworks displays in November but it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain larger fireworks. Aerial star shells fired from mortar tubes were the first to be unavilable and now it will not be easy to buy large rockets.
It was at first assumed that there would be quite a number of these large rockets which last year were 1.4G would be in circulation and in common with many other products it would take a year or two to move them on to a stricter regime. This is officially not the case.
Three suppliers have had to consider ways in which rockets could be legally packaged to reduce their classification to 1.4G. In practice this has meant that for example Kimbolton Fireworks of Huntingdon has had to burn test their superb German manufactured rockets in mesh lined cartons in order to gain this 1.4G classification. It adds a great deal to the costs, but they are still the only EEC rockets available in this large display size; others have done this with Chinese material.
For all lovers of fireworks these changes can be very disappointing. The responsible Firework Trade has gone the extra mile to keep our traditions alive.
2008 Olympics Fireworks
Amongst the novelties for the Olymics opening-ceremony fireworks will be smiley-face shape shells, the Chinese authorities said today in an announcement about their plans. They are part of a theme – to be reflected on staff and volunteer clothing – to soften China’s authoritarian image.
Cai Guoqiang, the artistic director for the fireworks, announced that fireworks would be launched from a staggering 1,800 sites around the city of Beijing, including major urban areas near Tiananmen Square and the Bird’s Nest stadium near the Olympic Village.
‘We want the Olympic spirit to be seen and felt throughout the entire city on the evening of the opening ceremonies,’ said Cai, a famous Chinese artist.
World record rockets attempt cancelled
An attempt to break the world record for the number of records in a single flight has been cancelled after teh local Environmental Health Department raised the possibility of prosecution.
Terry McDonald set his first world record in 1997 with the launch of 39,210 rockets to raise funds for the BBC’s Children in Need appeal during Jersey’s Battle of the Flowers Festival.
The record stood until 2006 when Roy Lowry launched 56,405 rockets in 30 seconds at the 2006 British Fireworks Championships in Plymouth.
After extensive preparations and costs of over £50,000 the attempt was abandoned only two days before the event when Jersey’s environment department warned Mr McDonald that he could be prosecuted if the display caused any environmental damage. Full story
